John MacMenamin

The floating architect.

Across product, engineering, and design, I am the person who makes the whole system cohere.

John MacMenamin

I am a design leader and systems builder. For 20 years I have worked where design meets engineering and product: building design systems that ship as infrastructure, taking ambiguous zero-to-one briefs to launched products, and leading the teams that do both.

The pattern across my work is the same: I float between pillars. At Block. One I led product design across a brand, a design system, and two shipped products. At Meta I ran a design system initiative as project manager and contributed components as an IC in the same six weeks, raising surface adoption from 19% to 59%. At AIG I designed and helped integrate a component library that let a greenfield React product ship ahead of schedule. On Pegasus, my own platform, I do all three jobs at once: founder, designer, and developer.

I got here by doing every job around the design seat. I founded a creative agency and shipped for 3M and LexisNexis. I worked as a UI/UX engineer at WM, writing the front end I designed. I trained in project management, ran product strategy at Block.one while it grew from 5 to 400 people, and at Meta my title said what the work was: Design Architect across the Family of Apps, where a V2 design system I drove reached 80% adoption and removed 1.73 million lines of code. At Inworld AI I led design across the Gen AI character platform with partners like Microsoft and Nvidia. Today I direct product design for AI Labs at Zeta Global, where I also head design systems, working in partnership with OpenAI.

I lead as a player coach. I stay hands-on in the work, use a lean UX loop, and adapt method to the moment: deep research when the risk is understanding, live prototype testing when the risk is execution. Drawing on my entrepreneurial experience, I use resources efficiently to keep momentum and deliver. The work that pulls me in: labs environments where AI products go from zero to shipped, and design built as a system rather than a service.
